For first timers one of the best ways to start is to buy a complete grow tent kit which contains not only the tent itself but also the basics of the hydroponics system you will be using. Once it has arrived you will have to set it up as in the majority of cases they are purchased as flat packs for self assembly.
Start with the frame as this will support the fabric which makes up the grow tent. Make sure that the light source is cabled in and then secure the light and any dividers that may be present (some kits separate the growing and lighting area). Also ensure that the fabrics are secured to the frame and any vents are in the right place.
Just like flat pack furniture, the manufacturer’s instructions are the best place to start when constructing your grow tent. Once it’s up, plug in the lights or other equipment such as fans (make sure the power supply is grounded to avoid shorts if water does manage to escape; safety first!).
Then insert your plants and hydroponics system within the grow tent. Depending upon the system you are using you may wish to keep the reservoir outside of the tent with enough piping to ensure it is feeding the plants effectively, you should also consider placing trays within the tent for your plants if using a flood and drain system to avoid water leakage.
Once it is all set up flick the switch and make sure everything is working properly, then gently shut your grow tent and ensure that the fastening (typically a zipper) is done up tightly so that no light can get in or out. Do not check you plants too often and leave tent sealed as this can destabilise the growing environment, then just manage your nutrient and pH levels and monitor your plants sparingly and in time you’ll be boasting fantastic crops from your new grow tent.
